It guarantees continued operation in the case of a mains power failure. The unit charges the external battery at an optimum charge voltage to suit the bat- tery temperature using an external NTC temperature sensor. An alarm output will indicate if there is a problem with the battery voltage, the battery temperature or the mains input voltage.
